Taking Care to Being Diligent

Dear Jack –

In Deuteronomy 4.9-10 Moses is speaking to Israel, and he says: “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life.  Make them known to your children and your children’s children – how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.'”

Two things strike me: I am to dilgently take care not to forget what God does for me, and I am to pass this onto my children.  In that vein of thought, I’m adding a new feature to this blog called “Pile of Stones” [similar to Israel’s use of an ebenezer] and it will contain instances that the Lord has answered a prayer or has provided in some other way.  I’ll keep it updated as best as I can.

I used to chalk these happenings up to coincidence, but have been challenged recently to look for God’s fingerprints on them.  Sir William Temple related “coincidences” and answered prayers by saying “When I pray, coincidences happen.  When I don’t, they don’t.”  Till next time, Jack.
